It was opened on 6 February 1961 by His Imperial Majesty HAILE SELASSIE I, who dedicated it to serve “the needs of the peoples of Africa.” The opening ceremonies also marked the opening of the fourth session of the ECA, the commission is responsible for studying and initiating action to meet the economic and social needs of the African people.en
