International Women’s Day 2021
| dc.description | International Women’s Day 2021 event was organized by United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Executive Secretary Vera Songwe, and Birgitte Markussen Ambassador, Head of the EU Delegation to the African Union. This year, the theme for International Women’s Day (8 March), “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world,” celebrates the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping an equal future and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and highlights the gaps that remain. EU and AU women Ambassadors and UN Women leaders agreed gender equality must be at the heart of post-COVID19 recovery. Women bear the brunt more and must be better represented in leadership positions. Executive Secretary Vera Songwe thanking EU and AU women Ambassadors for joining at UN Women’s Day celebrations and said; "Together with our voices are stronger; together we can keep moving the dial to reach our goal for a prosperous Africa and the world for women; together we can inspire better, faster and stronger." | en |
