| dc.description | The Eleventh Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa and Africa Climate Summit (CCDA XI) was held at Safari-Park Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya from September 1-3, 2023, under the theme: “Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions for Africa and the World”. The Climate for Development in Africa (CimDev-Africa) is a joint initiative of the African Union Commission, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and the African Development Bank. The ClimDev Africa partners, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry of the Government of Kenya and with the support of the Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) proposed to convene this event. At the 11th Conference on CCDA2023, Linus Mofor, Senior Environmental Affairs Officer at UNECA, discussed in the Session Green Industry Transformation and Energy Transition. He highlighted that the conference is part of the Climate Change for Development in Africa initiative, a joint effort by the United Nations Economy Commission for Africa, the African Union Commission, and the African Development Bank. This initiative was established in 2007 to help African countries respond to climate change. Mofor also emphasized the significant impact of climate change on Africa, with the continent losing 15 percent of its GDP, and provided specific examples such as Mozambique's loss of almost 15 percent of its GDP. These institutions can mobilize development finance that can support countries to respond to climate change. Now Africa wants to convene a summit at the head-of-state level to develop the African agenda on the global stage for addressing climate change issues on the continent. | en |
