| dc.description | The Eleventh Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa and Africa Climate Summit (CCDA XI) was held at Safari-Park Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya from September 1-3, 2023, under the theme: “Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions for Africa and the World”. The Climate for Development in Africa (CimDev-Africa) is a joint initiative of the African Union Commission, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and the African Development Bank. The ClimDev Africa partners, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry of the Government of Kenya and with the support of the Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) proposed to convene this event. African Union Commission's Deputy Chairperson, Monique Nsanzabaganwa, stated at the closing of the 11th Conference that the latest IPCC assessment report indicates Africa's projected experience of more frequent and intense heat waves, droughts, floods, storms, and wildfires under various emission scenarios. This is despite the continent contributing less than four percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. These extreme events have dire consequences for livelihood development and affect many African economies putting human lives at risk. We must come together in global solidarity to address these challenges. The report predicts that Africa needs new, additional, and skill-fit financial support from developed countries to tackle its climate vulnerabilities and threats and she added that the African continent is the solutions powerhouse, this solution powerhouse for saving the climate not just for itself but the entire world.
