| dc.description | The Eleventh Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa and Africa Climate Summit (CCDA XI) was held at Safari-Park Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya from September 1-3, 2023, under the theme: “Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions for Africa and the World”. The Climate for Development in Africa (CimDev-Africa) is a joint initiative of the African Union Commission, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and the African Development Bank. The ClimDev Africa partners, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry of the Government of Kenya and with the support of the Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) proposed to convene this event. Mr. James Murombedzi heads the African Climate Policy Centre at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, at the Critically of Climate Finance for Africa session explained that climate finance is important for several reasons. The whole issue of climate finance stems from the impacts of climate change on economies, societies, and the environment. The reason why it becomes an issue is because of the economic impact of climate change. For instance, in Africa, economies are losing up to five percent or even more of their GDP to climate change. It is important to support Africa’s climate finance to move forward with adaptation and mitigation. | en |
