dc.description | The Eleventh African Internet Governance Forum AfIGF 2022 was held in Lilongwe, Malawi on 19-21 July 2022. The African Union Commission (AUC) in collaboration with the Republic of Malawi and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) organized the event with several high-level sessions and delegates across African countries. With over 934 in-person and 1,393 virtual, delegates discussed Africa's evolving nature of technology. The high-level and parallel sessions included but were not limited to digital inclusion, meaningful access, data privacy and protection, community network, online child safety, data governance, cybersecurity, entrepreneurship, digital sovereignty, digital trust, etc. Understanding National Cyber Maturity workshop was organized by Oxford University / C3SA / UK FCDO at the 2022 Africa Internet Governance Forum. Ms. Sorene Assefa Coordinator of Cybersecurity and Connected Africa Girls Initiative of UNECA, presented her opinion, that Africa doesn't face any unique online threats compared to the rest of the world. However, we can certainly focus on issues specific to Africa. As she worked in cybersecurity for a while, she believes three actors are involved: the perpetrators, the victims, and the platform itself. Each actor plays a role in the digital ecosystem, and it is important to understand that role. Some of the issues that we are seeing today include cyberbullying, online harassment, trolling, and the increasingly concerning trend of revenge porn. | en |
