| dc.description | The 7th Session of the Committee on Women and Development (CWD) took place from 17-20 May 2011 at the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The primary goal of the meeting was to provide a platform for Member States to exchange ideas and experiences while reviewing the progress made towards the Banjul Declaration and the Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA). The session also discussed strategies for achieving gender equality and tracked the progress of African countries in women's human rights, according to ECA's Information and Communication Service. The recent political events in North Africa and developments in countries such as Cote d’Ivoire in West Africa have drawn the attention of the Committee on Women and Development (CWD) towards the role of women in peacebuilding and reconciliation initiatives in these regions. In the second episode of the Press Conference on Women's Rights, the CWD discussed its efforts towards supporting countries that face challenges in accessing the internet and new technologies.
