| dc.description | The Fifth Joint Annual Meetings of the African Union (AU) Conference of Ministers of Economy and Finance and the Economic for Africa (ECA) Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from March 22 to 25, 2012, at the African Union Conference Center. The theme of the conference was "Unleashing Africa's Potential as a Pole of Global Growth." Despite the global economic crises and weak growth, Africa is now attracting investments and becoming a sanctuary for international capital. The African Union Commission and the Economic Commission for Africa are working with African policymakers to unleash the continent's potential for development. During his opening remarks, Mr. Maxwell Mkwezalamba, Commissioner for Economic Affairs, AUC expressed that the two commissions have collaborated effectively in preparing for crucial continental and international conferences. For instance, the ECA and AU have been working together in several areas, including the preparation of the Economic Report, reviewing the progress in the attainment of the Millennium development goal in Africa, and assessing integration in Africa. The two organizations have also been working closely together on climate change negotiations and the G20 summits.
