dc.description | Absa has launched its Africa Financial Markets Index for 2023 to showcase how economies can reduce investment barriers and promote sustainable growth. The report highlights that although Africa still faces challenges, it is progressively moving towards socio-economic prosperity through its continued development within ESG market frameworks, digital technologies, and strengthening legal infrastructure. This year's report covers 28 countries, including Cabo Verde and Tunisia, and is supported by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. The index now covers approximately 80% of Africa's population and gross domestic product. In a video, the Managing Director of the Economic and Monetary Policy Institute at OMFIF explained that the African Financial Markets Index is a part of the research that they do to understand how different countries in Africa can upgrade their financial market infrastructure to achieve better economic and financial outcomes. Policymakers and market participants can learn from each other to improve their financial market infrastructure. Chief Economist for the Absa Group, Jeff Cable, presented the ABSA Group, a Pan-African financial services entity primarily serving English-speaking countries in sub-Saharan Africa, but with a significant presence across the continent. The Absa Africa Financial Markets index is in its seventh year and focuses on financial market development, aiming to create an environment across the continent where countries can best attract capital and put it to use. | en |
