The meeting aimed to build the capacity of African countries to implement PPP with a focus on the power sector and energy development to encourage investment. Opening Remarks made by Abdalla Hamdok, Director of GPAD, UNECA, recognized that African governments have started transferring service provision to the private sector. For instance, from 1990-2008, 359 infrastructure projects were implemented using private participation in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a total investment amount of around 70 billion USD. Although more needs to be done in sharing development experiences, Hamdok stressed the importance of effectively implementing PPPs today. | en |
