Opening Speech by Marcel Bolboaca, Chief of Section, Information System, and Telecommunication, ECA at International French Language Day 2024
| dc.description | On March 20th, 2024, the Economic Commission for Africa celebrated International French Language Day at the ECA Conference Center in Addis Ababa. The purpose of the event was to promote multilingualism as a core value of the UN and integrate it into the activities of the Secretariat. The International Organization of la Francophonie, the Group of Francophone Ambassadors, multilingualism partners, and diplomatic missions in Addis Ababa coordinated the event. Marcel Bolboaca, Chief of Section, Information System, and Telecommunication, ECA, gave the opening speech. Mr. Marcel highlighted the relevance of multilingualism, linguistic and cultural diversity in recent years, and the theme of this year's French-language day and International Day of La Francophone, "be creative, be innovative, and be enterprising in French." This theme focuses on economics, demographics, innovation, scientific and technological progress, innovation creation, and entrepreneurship, which is crucial for young people facing unemployment, economic stagnation, economic and political misgovernment, and other societal ills. | en |
