| dc.description | On September 29 - 30, 2011, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organized a workshop in Nairobi, Kenya, called the African Governance Report (AGR III) Media Workshop. The workshop was attended by media representatives from across Africa and aimed to deepen the understanding of democracy, elections, and diversity management in Africa. The workshop was part of a research project currently being conducted in 42 African countries, and the findings will be published in the third edition of the African Governance Report. The report includes the views of the media in its analysis. During the workshop, Said Adejumobi, the AGR Coordinator, explained the role of media practitioners in African elections and emphasized that the issue of elections and diversity management is a recurring theme in political and scholarly debates in Africa and beyond. The report highlights that elections in Africa continue to be a divisive issue, splintering people and communities, rather than bringing them together and providing social cohesion. | en |
