dc.description | IPCC SREX regional outreach meeting was held on 9-10 May 2012 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the Overseas Development Institute, Norway’s Climate and Pollution Agency, Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network are taking the lead in organizing the events to provide information about the possible impacts of climate extremes and disasters by region, and options for managing the potential risks arising from them, as assessed in the IPCC Special Report. Dr. Youba Sokona chaired the meeting, Coordinator of the African Climate Policy Center (ACPC), UNECA, and panelists were Dr. Abebe Haile Gabriel, Director REA African Union Commission; Dr. Chris Field, IPCC WGII (co-chair); Minister of Foreign Affairs, Norway and Dr. Tewolde Berhan Gebre Egziabher, Director-General Environmental Protection Agency of Ethiopia. Delegates were invited to meet youth groups concerned about Ethiopia's environment and climate change. Dr. Chris Field, IPCC WGII (co-chair); mentioned IPCC has more than 20 years produced authoritative, definitive balanced, policy-relevant assessments of scientific knowledge about climate change and its implications. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) prepared a special report titled "Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters for Advancing Climate Change Adaptation" (SREX). | en |
