dc.descriptionFifth Joint Meeting AU Conference of Ministers of Economy and Finance and ECA Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development - Addis Ababa March 22 to March 27, 2012. Ministers in the areas of Economy, Planning, and Finance are meeting in the African Union (AU) headquarters within the framework of the 5th Joint AU Conference of Ministers of Economy and Finance (CAMEF) and African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (CAMFED) that kicked off today, Monday, 26 March 2012, in the New African Union Conference Center (AUCC), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Holding under the theme “Unleashing Africa’s Potential as a Pole of Global Growth” The Conference is jointly organized by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the Africa Innovation Foundation hosted an awards ceremony to celebrate African ingenuity. The awards were co-organized by the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the African Innovation Foundation (AIF) in recognition of initiatives aimed at promoting the pursuit of science, technology, and engineering careers among young African men and women and especially at developing innovative solutions with a great potential for commercialization. The ceremony took place on the sidelines of the ongoing Conference of Ministers of Finance and Planning which is deliberating the actions needed to turn Africa into a New Growth Pole for the global economy. This video presents the opening Statement made by Mr. Abdoulie Janneh, UN Executive Secretary of the ECA, Africa Innovation Foundation Cofounder Jean-Claude Bastos De Morais, and Ms. Aida Opoku Mensah, Director of the ICT, Science and Technology Division. In addition to this, present the certificate ceremony and the judgment process of this year's together with the last two contests of the Innovation Prize winner documentary. The First winner Mr. Mohammed Sanad, a professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, Egypt won the inaugural Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA) 2012. The announcement was made during a glittering gala dinner in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia attended by ministers of finance, central bank governors, government representatives, the media, the private sector, and civil society actors. Professor Sanad won the $100,000 prize for developing a low-cost, lightweight, low wind-load, foldable/deployable, multi-broadband base station antenna: using dual parabolic cylindrical reflectors with novel small-size broadband resonant feeds. The Second winner Mr. Zeinou Abdelyamine, an industrial chemistry graduate from Algeria and founder of his own company, Bit Bait was the Runner-up and received $50,000 for his active involvement in research and development of environmentally friendly 100% natural insecticides and rodenticides.en
