Mr. Abdoulie Janneh, UN Executive Secretary of the ECA Opening Statement Committee of Experts of the 5th Joint Annual Meetings of the AU Conference of Ministers Part Two

dc.description	The Fifth Joint Annual Meetings of the African Union (AU) Conference of Ministers of Economy and Finance and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on March 22-25, 2012. The main theme of the meeting was "Unleashing Africa’s potential as a pole of global growth". In a video of the event, Mr. Abdoulie Janneh, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the ECA made an opening statement in which he emphasized the importance of proper management of natural resources for sustainable development. With Africa's growth trajectory continuing, managing increasing materials intensity and resource rents from extractive industries is crucial. To address these issues, the African Mining Vision was adopted by the AU Summit in 2009, and an African Minerals Development Centre is being established at ECA this year. The 8th African Development Forum in October 2012 will address "Governing and Harnessing Natural Resources for Africa’s Development".	en
