| dc.description | Fifth Joint Meeting AU Conference of Ministers of Economy and Finance and ECA Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development - Addis Ababa March 22 to March 27, 2012. Ministers in the areas of Economy, Planning, and Finance are meeting in the African Union (AU) headquarters within the framework of the 5th Joint AU Conference of Ministers of Economy and Finance (CAMEF) and African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (CAMFED) that kicked off today, Monday, 26 March 2012, in the New African Union Conference Center (AUCC), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Holding under the theme “Unleashing Africa’s Potential as a Pole of Global Growth” The Conference is jointly organized by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). The Conference welcomed participation for the first time of the delegation of South Sudan, Africa’s newest State. The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the Africa Innovation Foundation hosted an awards ceremony to celebrate African ingenuity. The ceremony took place on the sidelines of the ongoing Conference of Ministers of Finance and Planning which is deliberating the actions needed to turn Africa into a New Growth Pole for the global economy. The annual awards honor and encourage innovative achievements that contribute toward developing new products, increasing efficiency, or saving costs in Africa.
