| dc.description | Economic Report on Africa 2011 on Governing Development in Africa: The Role of the State in Economic Transformation was launched on 29 March 2011 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This Report highlighted that the failure of earlier state-led and market-driven approaches to promoting economic transformation points to the need for fostering long-term investment, rapid and sustained economic growth, equity, and social development within inclusive, transparent, and comprehensive development frameworks. Speaking at the launching of the Report, the Director of the Economic Development and NEPAD Division of ECA, Mr. Emmanuel Nnadozie, said the Report examined the record of the state in promoting development in Africa, highlighted concrete success stories in Africa and elsewhere as well as recommended concrete actions for sustaining development and promoting economic transformation on the continent. Participants and stakeholders at the Fourth Joint Annual Meetings of African Ministers in charge of Finance, Economy, Planning, and Economic Development burst into thunderous applause in the main conference hall of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa as Guinea's Finance Minister Kerfalla Yansane and chair of the meetings formally launched the 2011 edition of the Economic Report on Africa (ERA2011). | en |
