| dc.description | Thirty-two African research institutions have been recognized as Centers of Excellence in Health Innovation by the African Network for Drugs and Diagnostics Network (ANDI). The announcement was made at the fourth annual ANDI conference, held 24-27 October 2011 in the new hosting city, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where ANDI is based at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). The ANDI centers of excellence are spread across the five sub-regions of Africa. They are conducting research and development and innovation activities on drugs, diagnostics, vaccines, medical devices, and traditional medicines. Minister of Science and Technology of South Africa at the fourth annual ANDI conference at the opening Speech described that we meet at a time that is extremely positive for the African continent. Africa has committed to increasing collaboration and investment in science and technology. The 2007 Heads of State AU Summit declared the year 2007 as one for building constituencies and champions for science technology and innovation in Africa. | en |
