| dc.description | The 17th Internet Governance Forum (IGF) was hosted by the Government of Ethiopia with the support of UN ECA and UN DESA. The forum took place from 28 November to 2 December 2022 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, under the overarching theme of Resilient Internet for a Shared Sustainable and Common Future. There were five themes that guided the agenda of the meeting, drawn from the Global Digital Compact found in the UN Secretary-General's report on Our Common Agenda.
The 17th annual IGF was hosted in a hybrid format. The meeting aimed at accommodating the participation of stakeholders present onsite in Addis Ababa or participating online in an equitable manner. This hybrid approach also extended to the session organizing teams (organizers, speakers, moderators, and rapporteurs) who participated online or onsite.
The overall objective was to make participation in IGF 2022 meaningful and inclusive for all participants.
The IGF Women Summit was held on the afternoon of 28th November, putting gender at the forefront of discussions at the forum. Topics ranged widely, including the need for improved data, especially in Africa, to increase understanding of internet developments to the importance of addressing digital violence against women. Women's roles in online business and online leadership were emphasized, along with the importance of participating in the development of the Global digital compact, as a framework for the improvement of women’s lives and digital societies. | en |
