Closing of the fifty-fifth session of the Economic Commission for Africa Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development
| dc.description | The fifty-fifth session of the Economic Commission for Africa consists of a preparatory meeting of the Committee of Experts of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development held from March 15-21, 2023. The ministerial segment of the Conference followed it. In addition to considering the statutory matters of the Commission, the Conference was one of the premier forums on the continent for dialogue and exchanges of views among African ministers responsible for finance, planning, and economic development and governors of central banks on issues pertinent to the development agenda of Africa. The Conference's theme was "Fostering recovery and transformation in Africa to reduce inequalities and vulnerabilities. The closing session of the ministerial segment concluded with statements by Acting Executive Secretary Antonio Pedro and Chair of the Bureau; Acting ES said,"“ECA is committed to strengthening collaboration with AUC, particularly on supporting Africa with strategic perspective thinking and foresight studies on how Africa can achieve prosperity and speed up the process of achieving Agenda 2030 and 2063 and chair of the bureau, Henry Musasizi also said"“the ability of our member states to effectively tackle poverty and inequality is severely constrained, given declining economic growth, narrowing fiscal space, rising debt, commodity shocks and tightening global financial condition"” | en |
