| dc.description | The 17th Internet Governance Forum (IGF) was hosted by the Government of Ethiopia with the support of UN ECA and UN DESA and took place from 28 November to 2 December 2022 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, under the overarching theme Resilient Internet for a Shared Sustainable and Common Future. There were five themes that guide the agenda of the meeting, drawn from the Global Digital Compact found in the UN Secretary-General's report on Our Common Agenda. The 17th annual IGF was hosted in a hybrid format. The meeting aimed at accommodating the participation of stakeholders present on-site in Addis Ababa or participating online in an equitable manner. The Executive Secretary of ECA welcomed attendees to the press conference for the Global Internet Governance Forum in Addis Ababa, which was expected to be the biggest event since the 2015 Financing for Development conference, and discusses the opportunities the forum presents for leveraging digital technologies to enhance social and economic progress in Africa. | en |
