Ministers of Foreign Affairs and heads of delegations from the Member States of the African Union (AU) converged at the headquarters of the A.U. in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the official opening of the 42nd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council. The opening session was chaired by H.E. Madame Aissata Tall Sall, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, in the presence of H.E. Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the FDRE, H.E. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the A.U. Commission, Deputy Chairperson of the AUC, Ag. Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Anthonio Pedro, the Commissioners of the AUC and Heads of A.U. Organs/ Missions, the diplomatic corps, representatives of the international community, and guests, among others. Mr. Antonio Pedro, Acting Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) on his part stressed that, at the ECA, “We believe that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) can be a catalyst to stimulate recovery, accelerate trade and industrialization, and build resilience into the African economy.
