| dc.description | The 2022 African Economic Conference (AEC) was held on 09- 11 December 2022 in Balaclava, in the island nation of Mauritius, with a strong call for Africa to adopt smart technologies to tackle what speakers described as ‘the looming climate change threat’ to the continent.
The 2022 African Economic Conference (AEC 2022) was jointly organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The AEC 2022 was an opportunity to reflect deeply on the institutional capacities to build climate-smart development mechanisms and support our regional member countries to build resilience and transition to low-carbon development pathways. It was also an occasion to reflect on how countries can actively rebuild better from the COVID-19 pandemic with climate-smart solutions.
A plenary session on leadership dialogue enhancing African climate finance was held on the first day. This session focused on innovative and sustainable mechanisms to stimulate the flow of finance for climate change adaptation and mitigation in Africa, including through capacity building. The session provided an opportunity for peer learning based on countries’ climate finance landscape and challenges. It will identify specific interventions that could improve the volume of climate finance across climate and gender-sensitive economic sectors. | en |
