dc.description | The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) on October 13 paid a courtesy visit to Ethiopia’s State Minister for Political and Economic Diplomacy (MFA), Ambassador Tesfaye Yilma. Led by its acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Antonio Pedro, discussions focused on the 17th Global Internet Governance Forum, the Africa Hall renovation project, plus a presentation of an Online Humanitarian News Portal, which will provide unique evidence-based information on the latest social and economic development trends of the East African Nation.
During the audience granted by Ambassador Tesfaye Yilma, UNECA’s Acting Executive Secretary underscored the relevance of the yet-to-be-launched online portal in ensuring public access to information in accordance with national legislation and international agreements (SDG 16.10) and highlighted this important contribution by the Commission to the Government of Ethiopia in guaranteeing access to reliable information that tells the dignified stories of the Ethiopian people. “This one-stop portal will ensure access to relevant, high-quality, and time-bound information that can serve as a powerful tool for a meaningful, evidence-based understanding of Ethiopia.” Said Antonio Pedro.
A virtual tour of the portal was done by UNECA’s Chief of Knowledge Management Services, Ms. Irene Onyancha, who explained the various features that provide access to evidence-based systematic reviews, summaries, and recommendations that tell the Ethiopian story objectively.
This was followed by a question-and-answer session where pertinent questions about the portal were asked. After the question-and-answer session, the Acting Executive Secretary thanked the ministry staff for their warm reception. On their part, MFA staff lauded the initiative of UNECA, promising to provide more feedback to ensure this portal delivers access to quality information that complements Ethiopia’s developmental efforts. | en |
