dc.descriptionThe African Economic Conference 2017 was held on the theme "Governance for Structural Transformation" from 04-06 December 2017. The Economic Commission for Africa jointly organized the event with the African Development Bank and the United Nations Development Programme. The specific objectives of the Conference were to Promote knowledge management as an essential driver of policy dialogue, good policy planning, and implementation; Foster dialogue that promotes the exchange of ideas and innovative thinking among researchers, development practitioners, and African policymakers; Encourage and enhance research on economic and policy issues relating to the development of African economies; Provide an opportunity for young African researchers, Africans in the diaspora and regional and subregional organizations to disseminate their research findings and share information with African policymakers on the work that they do in the region. On the second day of the Conference, the presentation and the discussion were held on the state's and leadership's role in overcoming barriers to effective structural transformation. It was chaired by Dr. Gamal Ibrahim, Chief, Finance and Private Sector Section, ECA. Paper Presenters were: Growth, Sectoral aid, and Institutional Quality: Evidence from Developing. Countries. Adamas Maruta, University of South Australia, and; Discussant were: Charles Abugre, Savannah Accelerated Development Authority, Ghana.
