| dc.description | International UNDAY was held on Friday, 24 October 2008, at United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). A series of important events took place on UN Day as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Commission.
The daylong programme consisted of four major Ceremonies, including a UN flag-raising ceremony at the UNCC Main Entrance to mark the United Nations Day (UN Day); a Ceremony in CR1 to launch the ECA Jubilee Book and Africa Hall HistoricalProject; and Grinzane for Africa Award Ceremony.
The first edition of the award “Grinzane for Africa”, an African version of a prestigious Italian literary prize, was bestowed upon three figures of contemporary African literature, including the famous writer Ngugi wa Thiongo of Kenya. Italian Embassy presented the award in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) as part of its 50th-anniversary celebrations. | en |
