Opening of the Eighth Session of Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development
| dc.description | The 8th African Regional Forum for Sustainable Development (ARFSD) opened with a reminder for Africa to acknowledge the progress the continent has made towards targets in Agenda 2030 and Agenda 2063 and to double up the efforts to improve upon them. President Paul Kagame of Rwanda shared his hope that Africa will use the COVID-19 pandemic as a “springboard to speed up progress and innovate smarter ways to invest in human capital development.” He commended the ECA for its advocacy of the AfCFTA describing it as “a mutually beneficial partnership to strengthen Africa’s capacity to manufacture vaccines and pharmaceuticals” during this pandemic. The AfCFTA, he said, should be used to promote green growth through the adoption of sustainable technologies and infrastructure. He also called on countries to prioritize domestic resource mobilization to finance national health systems. | en |
