Press Conference at the Opening of the Seventh African Economic Conference
| dc.description | The Seventh Annual African Economic Conference 2012 took place in Kigali, Rwanda, from 30 October- 2 November 2012. This year's conference theme was "Fostering Inclusive and Sustainable Development in Africa in an Age of Global Uncertainty." The Conference provided a platform for more than 60 journalists from Africa and other parts of the globe to have a constructive dialogue with African Development Bank President Donald Kaberuka, and UNDP Administrator, Helen Clark. In a press conference that followed the opening sessions on Tuesday, the two chiefs of their respective institutions responded to questions on issues such as mining, commodities, education, health, energy, and infrastructure. Kaberuka and Clark highlighted the positive opportunities in Africa despite "the uncertain times in which we live." Their overarching messages acknowledged that Africa is on the right path and emphasized the need for governments to intensify actions to achieve inclusive growth, which advances human development. Clark also highlighted Africa's significant change and progress in economic reforms and development over the last decade and the catalytic role played by the African Development Bank in this process. | en |
