Roundtable on Youth, Democratic and Post-Democratic Transition at the International Conference on Youth and Democratization in Africa
| dc.description | The International Conference on: “Youth and Democratization in Africa: Lessons Learned and Comparative Experiences” took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 1 to 3 November 2012. The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA-GPAD) jointly organized the conference with the Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) - Regional Office. A roundtable discussion on Youth, Democratic Post-Democratic Transition was moderated by Brian Kagoro of UNDP and focused on the experiences and narratives of young people who had been involved in democratic struggles in terms of their encounters, opportunities, and challenges of the processes they have been involved in, and what they consider to be the gains and setbacks of those processes. The session included six panelists, and the objective of the roundtable was to: Understand the lived experiences of young people in national democratic struggles; Expose the obstacles, challenges, and opportunities that exist for young people in their involvement in democratic efforts; Discuss how young people have been incorporated into governance in the post-transition era, and Identify how young people can be politically empowered and mainstreamed in political and democratic processes in African countries. | en |
