| dc.description | The International Conference on: “Youth and Democratization in Africa: Lessons Learned and Comparative Experiences” took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 1 to 3 November 2012. The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA-GPAD) jointly organized the conference with the Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) - Regional Office.
Carlos Lopes, Executive Secretary of ECA, made opening remarks, Mr. Vidar Helgesen, Secretary-General, International IDEA; H.E Ato Redwan Hussien, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia on Public Mobilization and Participation and Mr. Vitalie Muntean, Deputy country director of operations in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The main objectives of the conference were to increase knowledge on the role of youth in democratization processes across countries and regions; to promote and articulate future strategic engagement of youth in promoting sustainable democracy and economic development; and to explore better policy options to mainstreaming youth in institutional, political, democratization, and governance processes. | en |
