| dc.description | The UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20) Africa Regional Preparatory Meeting was held in conjunction with the seventh session of the Committee on Food Security and Sustainable Development (CFSSD-7).
In her closing remarks, Ms. Jennifer Kargbo, the Deputy Executive Secretary of ECA, acknowledged the very useful results accomplished by the conference and, in particular, the adoption of the Consensus Statement. She said there was a clear affirmation of Africa’s resolve to speak with one voice at Rio+20. Ms. Jennifer Kargbo expressed satisfaction at effectively mainstreaming the social pillar of sustainable development in the conference deliberations. She called for continued leadership and engagement to ensure that Africa’s concerns and priorities were reflected in the Rio+20 outcomes. She reaffirmed the commitment of ECA and its partners to providing continued support to the Africa preparatory process for Rio+20. In conclusion, she thanked the Governments of the Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Republic of Congo, member States, representatives of major groups, development partners, and all participants for their exemplary leadership and valuable contributions to the conference. | en |
